Thanks, just what I expected.
Seeing the Light presents coverage of major ethical theories, ranging from Ethical Egoism and Cultural Relativism to Utilitarianism, Kantian Ethics, Rawls' Justice Theory, Aristotle's Virtue Ethics, and Feminist Ethics.
I love movies, but sometimes I want something that gives me another window on what a movie is about. This book discusses lots of movies, lots of different kinds of movies, and makes sense out of them in ways I would never have thought of. The writing is lively and light; the "moral" of the stories is laid out in ways I could understand. The Greeks only had plays, not movies, but I bet old Aristotle would have liked finding out how his theory works for modern cinema and not just classic tragedy or comedy.
I read this book while taking an Ethics of Film class, and let me tell you it was great! I have never been a very big fan of ethical theory, and I often found it to be dull and boring. However after reading this book I took a new liking to ethics, and saw some of my favorite movies in a totally new light!
Great read.
A bit more compact and focused would have been better. It seems a bit lacking from an educational view point.
